Self Publish

Self-publishing is now the most viable publishing option for artists to get their work seen beyond the computer screen and exhibition walls.  With Momento Pro you can order a single book or up to 24 copies at our standard pricing or receive significantly discounted pricing for volume orders of 25 to 250 copies.  Below you'll find some examples of photographers who have self published with our assistance, plus tips on what made their book successful.  Feel free to call us for more advice on funding, design, distribution, sales and marketing self published books.

Everywhere Was Wherever

by Damien Drew

Damien produced a book to extend the life and visibility of his first solo photo exhibition, presenting images captured on an 18-day motorcycle trip he took across the US.  The books also travelled overseas to the Paris Photo Los Angeles art fair so he could promote his work to a larger, international audience.

It was printed in an edition of 60, in a custom size with a Classic black buckram hardcover, and was accompanied by a series of Promo Cards with the details of where to buy the book online.  Personal project publications like this can also be used as premium portfolios for distributing to creative agencies.

The Five Happinesses

by Lee Grant

Lee was a category winner in the Australian Photobook Of The Year 2012 with her dummy book, Belco Pride, that she went on to publish in 2013.  Her second monograph The Five Happinesses was self published under her imprint Jungle Books and launched at Photobook Melbourne in 2014 by Dan Rule of Perimeter Books.

Each of the 100 copies is signed and numbered, and a special boxed edition is available with five 8x10" prints. Lee sourced the cover material from China, and worked with a designer to produce a striking publication that was sold at photo book and art book festivals and via book distributors, Books At Manic.

Books produced as signed and numbered limited editions of 50-150 books can be sold at a higher RRP, with a greater margin.

Gateway

by Simon Bernhardt

Bernhardt is an advertising and fine art photographer, who is heavily involved in the Sydney arts scene. Having successfully self-published two photography books, he understood the value of sophisticated design and worked with a professional to create a minimalist aesthetic with elegant use of typography.

Simon sought sponsorship to help fund his publication and launched the book on the opening night of his exhibition at Black Eye Gallery. For many, opening nights are the best environment for book sales, while well planned social media promotions and media releases are also necessary for success.

Gateway also resides in the Asia Pacific Photobook Archive.

Birdsville Races

by Berylouise Mitchell

This is a photo diary of Mitchell's road trips to the Birdsville Cup in 1989 and 1990. The gritty, grainy black and white photos of the races are interspersed with information about the personalities and the places she encountered along the way.

Mitchell revisited this work in 2015 to coincide with a major anniversary for the Birdsville Races and gifted 100 of the 140 printed hardcover books to the community to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.  To assist with the promotion of the related exhibition, she also printed a series of Promo Cards to mail out for publicity and as invitations.
